DD John Yardley shares this message on Special Olympics November 4:
Attached is the flyer for the 17th Annual Race for Champions benefiting Special Olympics - Broward. This event was started by our Worthy Sir Knight and Brother Paul Sallarulo and is the largest fundraiser for Special Olympics for the Knights of Columbus in South Florida, and one of the largest in our state. Most of you are aware how important Special Olympics is for the over 6,000 special needs athletes and their families from South Florida.
The race is held at 8 a.m. Saturday, November 4, at NSU in Davie. Please arrive by 7:30 a.m. if you are participating in the race / walk. You can register by using the QR code on the flyer or going to https://www.champions5k.org today! Can’t make it to the Race? You can still be a Champion and donate online or to your council who will forward designated donations to Special Olympics Broward.
I'm asking all to please spread the word about this amazing event, which does so much to help Special Olympics athletes. The Knights of Columbus and Special Olympics have been closely linked since the beginning, and most South Florida councils proudly donate and participate, so please join us at 3300 S. University Drive, Fort Lauderdale, 33328-2004. Free parking is available in the garage and parking lot across from the Alfred Miniaci Arts Center. The garage entrance is on Ray Ferraro, Jr. Boulevard off SW 30th Street. (Abe Fischler Blvd.)
Please register for the race and join us for this special day. You do not have to run! Many of us will just walk the 5K and enjoy the fellowship of friends, Brother Knights, Columbiettes and others who come out to support Special Olympics. For just $39 you will get a t-shirt, medal and an extra special VIP experience at the breakfast and lunch! There is also a silent auction, special guest speakers and plenty of fun and refreshments in the VIP area. This is a family friendly event that your wives and children will enjoy.
Please encourage your friends, family, Brothers and Parishioners to register and support the 'Race for Champions' on November 4th at Nova Southeastern University in Davie. I look forward to seeing many of you there. Vivat Jesus!
